APA released a clinical practice guideline for psychological and other nonpharmacological treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain in adults, based on systematic reviews of the scientific literature. First-line and second-line recommendations as well as areas where there was insufficient evidence for the multidisciplinary panel to recommend for or against a specific treatment are noted in the document. The guideline emphasizes the importance of patient-centered care for the treatment of chronic pain. It further provides detailed considerations for practitioners implementing the recommendations into practice and identifies specific directions for future research.
