Military Treatment Facility Engagement Work Group
The overall mission of the Military Treatment Facility Engagement (MTFE) Work Group is to provide expertise and leadership in the area of executing research studies within the Military Health Systems (MHS). The MTFE Work Group serves as a resource for PCT Principal Investigators (PIs) for discussion and problem solving that is specific to the military environment.

Work Group Goals
- Address the unique challenges of conducting pragmatic clinical trials within Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) projects.
- Optimize communication between PMC3 leadership, PIs and the organizational leadership at MTFs, the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and the Military Healthcare system (MHS).
- Assisting in identifying and securing the resources to execute trials within the MHS to include providing military pain specialty consultation services from our military subject matter experts and expanding access to military beneficiaries and identifying target MTFs/Clinics.
- Provide a community of experts in clinical research, data capture and analysis, regulatory affairs, and dissemination to share best practices, and ensure study success, as well as the broadest dissemination and implementation of findings/results.
Work Group Chair – Qualifications and Experience
Colonel Paul F. Pasquina, M.D., (U.S. Army) is the Professor and Chair of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and the Chief of the Department of Rehabilitation at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. As the Director of the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR), his current research efforts are focused on exploring n ew technologies to enhance the recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration of combat casualties, particularly those with traumatic brain in jury and extremity trauma.
