The Use of Complementary and Integrative Health Approaches for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain in Younger US Veterans: An Economic Evaluation
Researchers, including PMC PI Stephanie Taylor, PhD, MPH, conducted the first study of cost effectiveness of complementary and integrative health (CIH) therapy use among younger Veterans with musculoskeletal pain. The study found that, on average, CIH use appears associated with lower healthcare costs and less pain, and slightly higher opioid use. Based on growing interest in complementary and integrative health, the researchers called for more detailed analysis of CIH’s impact on the pain felt by those with chronic musculoskeletal disorder (MSD).
